Default How the game evolved for me (and for you?)

Hi all,

I just wanted to share something that struck me this pas weekend.

I was working towards my cartographer and skill hunter titles when i realized that i have been exclusively working on titles ever since the first news about GW:EN and GW2 came out. The perspective on carrying my accomplishments in the new games really ignited a new interest in the existing GW trilogy.

Basically, all i do has some link to a title: I complete bonuses for the protector titles and to get skill points for skill hunter tiltes, i grind for LB and sunspear points and so on... I am totally focused on these things in hope that i get some advantages off of it for my characters in GW2. So much so in fact that the game has become one big title hunt...

am i going insane?

Feel free to share how the game has evolved for you!

A lot of people have been griping about the new focus on title attainment. I see it as just another evolution of the game, it does not stop anyone playing their game how they choose, its just the majority of players now work on titles.

Admittedly, Anet do seem to be pointing towards !!majorgrindfactorX!! to attain some titles, but grinding in itself is someone working hard at the game and it deserves rewards.

The game, for me, started out with me knowing very little, as an unwitting ranger in ascalon I wandered around and was sorely dissappointed when the game finished and i escaped the charr into this strange snowy region... BUT WAIT! no, theres more, i can keep playing?! HOLY MOLEY THIS GAME IS HUGE...

then my comp crashed and i didnt play for ages but thankfully ive now completed proph and factions and am halfway thru NF. I head up a large guild and have many online peeps to keep me company.
I am also working on prot titles and skill hunter titles as i go, so i guess im focussing on the HoM element of GWEN.
You're not insane, just bananas like me.

Well for me, I became hooked on titles with the skill hunter title. I just had to have them all. Then was protector and cartographer.

I do believe that GW has shifted towards a Title seeking community and that new titles will be added in the near future to keep us going. They have been making them easier and adding more ever since they announced GWEN, and the HoM.

I'm the complete opposite.

Titles wore me out. Every time I logged in I felt I had all these "chores" to do and i wished to log off almost as fast as i got there, until I finally "retired" some months back with absolutely no desire to play anymore.

Obviously i didnt stay retired. Came back recently to play NF and loved it. I had so much fun just before I retired, and now recently with NF, getting Protectors largely in PUGs (but at least always human groups), that I wish to do the same in hard mode for Guardians. Not for the titles that come with doing that - just to do it for the fun of it. Just to be online and just to play for the sake of it, like to good old days. Helping people out, meeting new people, just having fun with it.

I have no care anymore - at all - for titles. I find them a tedium. Pursuit of them almost killed the game for me. I dont care a bit for any possible things they might unlock in GW2. I just use the Guardians track to help guide which missions I might wish to go look for groups to play with next.

I had played for about 7 months and got burned out on GW towards the end of the nightfall campaign. I really enjoyed the campaign so I don't even know why I burned out. Anyway one day I checked the main site to see the GW:EN and GuildWars 2 banner. I read up on it, and that got me motivated to start playing again. I'm glad I did. After a long list of mind numbing f2p mmo's it was nice to return to a good game. I'm actualy having fun again. I got a few title projects and a new character going to hold me over until GW:EN.

I jump back and forth between characters and try not to work on 1 title or on 1 character for for a very long time, otherwise ill get bored of grinding:P

But, i do have alot more fun working on the account wide titles, which makes all my characters feel special:P. So yeah, yay titles

For a while after I beat Nightfall on my Monk, I'd been playing around with other classes, getting 15k armor and green weapons for them, and grown sort of distant from my very first and favorite character of all, the Monk mentioned above. So once I got news of titles actually being useful, I began to see them as a way to make my Monk stand out as my main character once again. Since then, I've been working my way through the Protector, Explorer, Skill Hunter, and Vanquisher titles on my Monk, and advancing my Gladiator title so all my characters could share the love.
